We are uniting families to demand that Congress update the archaic SSI rules. Poverty is not a treatment plan.
Our primary goal is to Update SSI Now and eliminate the financial barriers that prevent children from receiving the support they deserve.
We are a powerful grassroots movement founded by caregivers demanding justice for multi-disabled children and their families.
To end the systemic failure created by the outdated SSI Parental Income Deeming Rules (largely unchanged since 2003). This policy punishes parents for working and forces caregivers into financial instability and mental health crisis just to access essential services like Medicaid.
"If you believe that the financial needs of a child with a severe disability should be based on their medical need, not the size of their parents’ paycheck, you belong here."
"I created the Kids Can't Wait Coalition because I am a parent who lives the daily, agonizing truth of the system's failure."
It is nearly impossible to live a happy, secure life while raising a multi-disabled child when our government uses 20-year-old rules to decide who is worthy of support. For too long, the archaic SSI Parental Income Deeming Rules have forced families like mine into an unbearable choice: either keep your income low enough to qualify for essential disability services, or watch your child be denied the care they desperately need.
I know firsthand the immense toll this takes. It often means one parent is forced out of the workforce, leaving the other to carry all the financial burden while the caregiver parent faces isolation, exhaustion, and a heavy mental health crisis. We are penalized for working, and we are punished for providing the constant, loving care our children require.
Kids Can’t Wait is more than just a name; it’s a promise. It is a movement born out of desperation and fueled by the knowledge that better solutions exist right now, globally.
We are here to end this injustice. We are uniting families, caregivers, and allies to demand that our government finally update its policies to reflect the modern cost of care and adopt a system that truly values the dignity of disabled children and the heroic labor of their parents.
We are building a list of advocates to present to Congress.
We need a headcount to show Congress. Add your name to the official roster.
